The Breckenridge Cowboys ran their winning streak to five games Tuesday, continuing the squad’s early-season excellence with a 13-1 home win vs. Dilworth-Glyndon-Felton.
Jaxson Riggs showcased pinpoint control on the mound, pitching all five innings to earn the win. The senior righty located 53 of 84 pitches in the zone, allowing five hits and one run. The flamethrower struck out seven and did not issue a walk, lowering his ERA to 2.25 through 9 ⅓ innings pitched.
Riggs also contributed at the plate in a 2-for-3 showing, marking his fifth consecutive multi-hit outing and recording his team-high 12th RBI.
Cooper Roberts collected three hits for the second straight day. The senior third baseman doubled twice, accounting for five runs in the contest.
Junior catcher Connor Ernst went 2-for-4 with three RBIs, joining Riggs, Roberts and Jaxson Lopez as players with at least one extra-base hit in the Heart O’ Lakes Conference win.
Lawson Oliphant continued to rake from the No. 9 hole, slapping a pair of singles. The senior center fielder scored twice and added an RBI, elevating his average to .500 through 14 plate appearances.
Luke Krueger took the loss for DGF, surrendering five earned runs and getting the hook after 2 ⅓ frames. Wyatt Conklin allowed three earned runs in relief. The Rebels defense committed three costly errors leading to five Cowboy runs.
Krueger and Logan Thune both doubled. Jack Seidler drove in the Rebels’ lone run.
