The Breckenridge-Wahpeton Storm softball team put up a fight Tuesday against reigning state runner-up Hawley, falling 3-2 in the opener and 7-3 in the nightcap.
Game one came down to the wire. Adi Dodge delivered a two-run single to score Ava Jaehning and Collyn Hought, who both reached via walk, in the seventh inning of the one-run loss.
Kaylie Moses doubled for the Storm, while Dodge and Aubrey Boesen singled for the team’s other two hits.
Addison Sanvick highlighted the Hawley effort with a solo homer. Elli Hastings earned the win inside the circle, striking out 13 batters in a complete-game three-hitter.
Storm hurler Marley Mumm tossed a complete game, allowing two earned runs on five hits and three walks while striking out seven.
Dodge delivered a solo homer for the Storm in game two, while Hought and Boesen posted multi-hit efforts. Skylie Pulskamp added a double to the box score.
Mumm went the distance for the second straight game, working around eight hits and two walks. She allowed two earned runs while striking out five.
