Breckenridge catcher Jaxson Riggs caught an Ashby runner stealing Monday. The senior also belted a triple on his way to three hits in the contest.
The Breckenridge Cowboys opened the baseball season Monday with a 17-0 road win against the Ashby Arrows, collecting 14 hits in the process.
Connor Ernst and Jaxson Riggs tallied three hits each while combining for seven RBIs. Both players doubled, Riggs tripled and Ernst scored three additional runs.
Jaxson Lopez, Charlie Kratcha and Cooper Roberts all recorded two singles. Gabe Armitage and Gavin Hoffert scored three times apiece, while Lopez and Quenten Lugert both delivered two RBIs. Ethan Shur parlayed three walks into four runs.
Kratcha earned the win on the bump, tossing three innings of two-hit ball. The righty fanned five while issuing one walk. Ernst allowed a hit while striking out the side during a scoreless inning. Lugert worked around a pair of walks by striking out two in the fifth and final frame.
The Cowboys are back in action at 4 p.m. Thursday on B 92.7 FM and KBMW News Live YouTube, when they host Barnesville in a doubleheader. Robert Wanek and Brady DeVries have the call from Cowboy Field.
