The Hawley Nuggets defeated the Breckenridge Cowgirls by a score of 56-53 in Hawley on Thursday, Feb. 8.

Parker Yaggie led the Cowgirls with 16 points, followed by Emily Gowin with 10 and Ava Jaehning with eight.

Yaggie stole the basketball and scored on a reverse layup to tie the game at 51-51. Jaehning gave Breckenridge a 53-51 lead with one minute left when she stole the ball, drew a foul, and buried both free throws.

Chasity Hanson appeared destined to put Breckenridge up when she stole the ball from Izzy Steer with 28 seconds remaining, but a late whistle resulted in a blocking foul which negated a breakaway layup as Hawley escaped with the Heart O’ Lakes Conference win.

Steer led all scorers with 26 points. The Nuggets improved to 11-10 and Breckenridge fell to 12-10.
