It was a great day for the Wahpeton Huskies golf team at Brookings Country Club. Wahpeton had its first top-five finish Friday since 2013 and had several players shoot under 40 on the back nine.
Wahpeton was led by seniors Josh Hofman and Brennen Ritter.
Hofman had a couple double bogeys on the front side, but really turned it on over the final nine holes, carding a solid even-par 36 on the back with two birdies and two bogeys. Hofman found a lot of fairways and that led to some great scoring opportunities.
Ritter had one double bogey on the front side and one birdie on the back nine. His course management was good and he kept his ball in play all day. After carding a birdie on hole No. 11, Ritter parred the next five holes to finish with a solid 38 on the backside.
Freshmen Peyton Miller and Kyler Flack also had sub-40 rounds on the back nine, both shooting 3-over-par 39. Both birdied hole No. 11 and both had five pars.
“These two young golfers are getting better each day and I was especially pleased with their score on a course they haven’t played before,” Ralph said.

Day two of the Southern Swing was a non-counting Eastern Dakota Conference tournament Saturday. The weather was cold and rainy and conditions were pretty difficult.
Hofman had another solid round shooting a 12-over-par 83. Hofman had a pretty clean scorecard on the back nine with a birdie and five pars. Josh said he had a couple birdie opportunities that didn’t drop, so he played a good round.
Flack and Miller both remarked that it was the coldest round they ever played, but they toughed it out and put up respectable scores. Miller had a solid 4-over-par 40 on the back nine and bounced back after a rough start.
