Cowboys stumble at Brandon/Evansville in third straight loss

The Breckenridge Cowboys fell to 2-5 in their last seven games following a 15-2 loss Tuesday at Brandon/Evansville. Breckenridge committed five errors and the Chargers held the Cowboys to a pair of hits in the section tilt.

Colton Breitkreutz powered the Charger lineup in a 2-for-3 display that featured a homer and a double. Evan Dingwall was also a key player, going 3-for-3 with a homer, three runs scored and five RBIs.

Eighth grade phenom Aidyn Meissner pitched all five innings to earn the win. Meissner allowed two hits, a walk and one earned run while striking out six.

Breckenridge was led by the surging Jaxson Lopez, who went 1-for-3 with a double and one run. Lopez is batting .392 during his breakout junior campaign, driving in 16 runs, scoring 18 times and stealing a team-high nine bases.

Cooper Roberts drove in a run with a single for the squad’s other hit. Quenten Lugert also walked and scored a run.

Jaxson Riggs was chased from the mound after 2 ⅔ innings as the Cowboy defense unraveled behind him. All five of the runs he allowed were unearned. Riggs surrendered two hits and two walks while fanning one. 

Charlie Kratcha allowed five unearned runs in relief. Lawson Oliphant was tagged for five earned runs in the fifth frame.

The Cowboys fell to 10-5 overall and 4-2 in section play. Breckenridge is ranked 27th in Class 1A (QRF), and currently holds the No. 5 seed for section playoffs. 

The Chargers improved to 16-1 overall and 13-1 in section play. Brandon/Evansville is ranked 18th in Minnesota Class 1A (QRF), and maintains the No. 2 seed for section playoffs behind undefeated, top-ranked Parkers Prairie.
