The Wahpeton Huskies fell to 1-9 following Friday’s doubleheader sweep vs. Devils Lake by scores of 7-2 and 3-0. Wahpeton once again proved it can hang around against top talent, but generated just seven combined hits as Devils Lake struck out 20 batters.
Rylan Flack toed the rubber in game and tossed a complete game. The Wahpeton junior located 60 of 104 pitches in the zone, working around seven hits and a walk. Flack only recorded one strikeout, but he kept Devils Lake quiet for the most part. Only one of the seven runs charged to him were earned.
Carter Hockert was the only Husky hitter to record two knocks. Aiden Hajek supplied a double, joining Hockert in the RBI column. Aiden Jacobson and Cayson Pinsonneault scored the Huskies’ two runs in the loss.
Devils Lake was led by a stellar outing from Will Heilman, who earned the complete-game win across seven innings of two-run baseball. Heilman racked up 12 punchouts while allowing five hits and walking one.
Easton Kraft went 2-for-2 with a double, one RBI and a run.
Wahpeton struggled to generate offense in the nightcap, tallying two hits in a 3-0 setback. Jacobson singled for the second straight game and Dylan Vierstrate also singled as they batted back-to-back at the bottom of the order.
Despite a strong bounce-back effort, Hockert took the loss on the mound. The senior pitched six frames, allowing five hits and three walks while striking out two.
Cayden McCarthy controlled the hill with a complete-game win. He allowed two hits and three walks while fanning eight.
