The Breckenridge Cowboys gave themselves a shot at the Heart O’ Lakes Conference championship following Tuesday’s 70-56 Senior Night win over the Dilworth-Glyndon-Felton Rebels.
Breckenridge celebrated its five seniors: Jaxson Riggs, Charlie Kratcha, Levi Christensen, Cooper Roberts and Isaiah Rodriguez.
Aidan Sanchez shot the lights out for Breckenridge. The junior guard dropped a game-high 29 points on 11-of-17 shooting, knocking down 7 of 12 attempts from three-point range. Sanchez added three assists and three steals. The scoring outburst marked Sanchez’ third effort with 29 or more points, bumping his season average to a team-high 17.8 points per game alongside 4.4 rebounds, 3.1 assists and 2.2 steals.
Cooper Roberts used his premium size and crafty moves to collect 21 points. The senior point forward added seven rebounds and two assists. Roberts did his damage efficiently on 9-of-13 shooting from the field. The 6’5” talent is averaging 16.6 points, 8.4 rebounds, 4.3 assists and 1.9 steals per contest.
Senior forward Levi Christensen scored six points and grabbed a team-high seven rebounds while dishing out two assists. The smooth-pivoting post is averaging 10.2 points, 6.2 rebounds, 2.4 assists and 2.0 steals per game.
Senior guard Mason Bjerken led the Rebels with 21 points. Junior guard Quincy Cox added seven points and a game-high 12 rebounds.
The victory vaults Breckenridge to 20-5 overall and 12-2 in conference play, one game behind Pelican Rapids (20-5, 14-1). The Cowboys and Vikings meet Friday in Pelican Rapids, with a share of the conference title within reach for Breckenridge. Pelican Rapids won the first meeting in Breckenridge, 62-52.
Dilworth-Glyndon-Felton is 14-12 overall and 9-7 in conference play, good enough for fifth in the nine-team standings.
