Post 53 sweeps Park Rapids to begin legion season

The Breckenridge Post 53 American Legion Baseball season began with a pair of mercy rule victories over Park Rapids Post 212 by scores of 11-1 and 13-3 at home Monday. 
The teams were tied at 1-1 until Breckenridge broke the game open with six in the fourth. They got four more in the fifth with Jaxson Riggs delivering his third hit of the game for the game-winning RBI. 
The fourth inning was all Post 53 in the nightcap as well with Breckenridge putting 10 runs on the board to break the 3-3 tie. 
Trey Vogelbacher got the win on the hill with nine strikeouts in game one and followed that up with a three-run triple in game two. 
Cam Nieto scored three runs and drove in two in the first game and followed it up with a pair of hits and runs in the nightcap. 
Gabe Armitage tossed four innings of game two with Connor Ernst getting the final three outs. The first batter he faced hit into a beautiful 4-6-3 double play and then he struck out the next hitter to end the game. 
Breckenridge has their first road game of the year at 6:30 p.m. Thursday in Hawley.
