The Breckenridge-Wahpeton Storm closed its regular season Thursday with a home sweep of Frazee by scores of 12-5 and 20-0.
Marley Mumm surpassed Mia Dodge for the Storm single-season strikeout record. The junior pitcher has 115 punchouts, besting the previous record by 10 Ks. Mumm enters the postseason with a 12-7 record and 1.73 ERA.
Breckenridge-Wahpeton crushed the ball on a windy day, hitting four home runs in the doubleheader. Skylie Pulskamp powered the effort from her No. 9 spot in the order, hitting two home homers in a 5-for-8 performance. Pulskamp racked up nine RBIs and scored six times.
The Storm hit seven doubles in its 12-5 win. Adi Dodge and Brielle Kelsen belted two doubles apiece. Adri Boesen, Claire Langenwalter and Pulskamp all doubled, while Ava Jaehning added a triple in the 18-hit outburst.
Mumm allowed three earned runs across seven innings. She struck out five and needed just 54 pitches to complete the game.
Dodge joined the home run column in the Storm’s 20-0 win. The senior catcher closes the regular season batting .541 with four homers, 15 doubles and 30 RBIs.
The Storm outhit the Hornets 20-2 in the nightcap. Hought delivered a homer in a four-hit performance that included five RBIs. Tenley Hills, Aubrey Boesen, Pulskamp and Dodge all posted multi-hit games. The Storm hit seven doubles in game No. 2.
Mumm was surgical with her command across five innings. The righty held the Hornets to a pair of hits while issuing one walk and recording four strikeouts.
The sixth-seeded Storm (12-7) hosts 11th-seeded Perham (9-13) to open the Section 8AA Tournament at 5 p.m. Monday. First round play is a single-elimination format.
