The Breckenridge Cowboys basketball team snapped a 22-game losing streak Monday night in Parkers Prairie, beating the Panthers by a score of 67-64 in the Section 6A play-in game. The road victory moved Breckenridge to 3-24 and ended the Panther’s season at 10-17.

Breckenridge, seeded ninth, topped the eighth-seeded Panthers behind 18 points from Cooper Roberts, 17 from Jacob Kunkel, 15 for Aidan Sanchez and 13 by Beau Beyer.

Sanchez scored 13 of his 15 points in the second half, coming alive in crunch time for the second consecutive game. The freshman scored seven late points against Mahnomen/Waubun in the regular season finale.

Kunkel and Roberts helped Breckenridge build an eight-point lead with two minutes remaining, scoring 13 consecutive points for the Cowboys.

Roberts was named Essentia Health Player of the Game. The sophomore delivered a clutch three-pointer and muscled his way inside for a tough bucket moments later after ripping the basketball away from two defenders.

Parkers Prairie stormed back to make it a one-point game in the final minute, ultimately falling short on a three-point attempt in the waning seconds. Kunkel tracked down the loose ball and heaved it down the court at the buzzer as Breckenridge ended its losing streak.

The Panthers were led by 15 points from Cohen Noska, 14 from Dylan Debilzen and 13 from Chavous Wendt.

Breckenridge will play No. 1 seed West Central Area at 7 p.m. Thursday on the road.
