The Breckenridge Cowboys and Frazee Hornets were each held scoreless through four quarters on Friday and overtime was needed to break the 0-0 tie. Collin Roberts found Gavin Snyder for a 10-yard score on the first play of OT to break the stalemate as the Cowboy defense completed the shutout in a 6-0 Breckenridge win in Frazee.

After the Cowboys scored, the Hornets had a chance to tie or win the game as overtime rules give them an opportunity to score from the 10 as well. The drive started with Alex Martel drilling the Frazee quarterback for a sack to dig the Hornets into a hole.

A short run and an incomplete pass led to a long fourth down attempt and Breckenridge got a sack to end the game, so they thought. A facemask penalty was called to keep the game alive, but Alex Tschakert sealed the win on the next play with a tackle in the backfield. An exclamation point on a night of dominance by the defense.

Roberts swooped in to throw the game-winning pass at quarterback after Cameron Nieto suffered a leg injury at the end of the third quarter and didn’t return to the game.

Snyder’s touchdown put the only points on the board, but Breckenridge found the end zone twice on plays that were negated due to penalties. The first was a 20-yard run by Nieto in the third quarter and the second was a 10-yard touchdown toss from Roberts to Gavin Pederson near the end of regulation.

The 2-1 Breckenridge squad stays on the road for a 7 p.m. Friday game against Underwood.
