Minnesota Crookston got some help from a band of Wahpeton Post 20 alumni on Sunday, as the Golden Eagles defeated Northern State, 10-5.
Redshirt sophomore catcher Jackson Fliflet went 2-for-4 with two RBIs and two runs scored. Junior shortstop Caden Kappes finished 2-for-3, with two RBIs. Junior center fielder Tori Uhlich batted 1-for-3 with a pair of runs. Listeners/readers may remember the trio from Wahpeton’s back-t0-back American Legion Baseball State Championships in 2023-24.
The Golden Eagles jumped ahead with three runs in the bottom of the first. Uhlich scored on a bases-loaded knock to give Crookston a 1-0 lead. Fliflet hit a sacrifice fly to make it 2-0, and Crookston cruised from there, improving to 17-10 overall and 10-5 in the Northern Sun Intercollegiate Athletic Conference.
Fliflet is now batting .410 with a team-leading 10 home runs and 31 RBIs, tallying 19 extra-base hits. Uhlich is batting .351 with 32 runs scored and 16 RBIs, while stealing a team-high 19 bases in 23 attempts. Kappes is batting .306 with five doubles, 15 runs and 13 RBIs while converting 5 of 6 stolen bases attempts.
