Blades top River Lakes as Lopez racks up four points

The Breckenridge-Wahpeton Blades traveled to Paynesville on Friday and came out with a 5-3 victory vs. River Lakes, improving the Blades’ season record to 11-13-1 and surpassing the 10 wins they achieved last year. River Lakes fell to 10-15 with the loss.

Matt Petersen, Gracin Kaste and Jaxson Lopez netted goals to put the Blades up 3-0 through one period. Lopez added two assists in the period and Easton Neppl had one.

The Stars scored twice in the second period, but Kaste tallied his second goal, assisted by Lopez and Neppl, to give the Blades a 4-2 advantage. 

Petersen scored his second goal in the final period to pad the lead, before River Lakes answered to make the final score 5-3. 

Lopez led the way with four total points, followed by two points each from Petersen, Kaste and Neppl. Blades goalie Cale Gilbertson stopped 26 of 29 shots on goal, while Stars goalie Will Robinson turned away 13 of 18 shots.
