Breckenridge’s Parker Yaggie (3) scored 11 points in the opening eight minutes Friday
The Breckenridge Cowgirls continued their Heart O’ Lakes Conference turnaround Friday, snapping Frazee’s nine-game winning streak with a 61-46 home win. The victory over the conference-leading Hornets keeps Breckenridge alive in the HOL race, one game behind Frazee and two games behind Perham in the loss column.
The 15-point win avenges a 70-64 road loss to Frazee on Dec. 12.
Breckenridge (14-6, 7-4) blitzed Frazee (14-3, 10-3) over the first 18 minutes, jumping out to leads of 22-6 and 35-15 while building a 43-25 halftime edge. The Cowgirls made just three field goals in the second half, but held Frazee to 21 points in the period, riding a defensive effort that’s helped them win six straight games.
Parker Yaggie led Breckenridge with 12 of her team-high 16 points coming in the first half. Emily Gowin followed with 10 points and Johnica Bernotas scored eight. The post tandem of Sienna Fobb and Mariah Koltes combined for 13 points. Ana Spear connected twice from downtown for six points, Ava Jaehning added six points and Piper Jaehning hit a pair of free throws.
Frazee was paced by a game-high 22 points from University of North Dakota commit Jayden Sonnenberg. Katie Courneya scored all 12 of her points from beyond the arc and Brynn Larson added nine.
The Cowgirls continue their unprecedented gauntlet of a schedule Monday when they host a 16-4 Sacred Heart Eagles squad for a 7:30 p.m. tip-off on B 92.7 FM and KBMW News Live YouTube.
