Henning overpowers Wahpeton in crossover matchup

Wahpeton’s Jack Gilbertson sinks a jumper over two Henning defenders

The No. 4-ranked Wahpeton Huskies (ND A) suffered their first setback of the season Monday in an 82-57 loss to the undefeated No. 2-ranked Henning Hornets (MN 1A) in a crossover matchup at the Fergus Falls Holiday Tournament.

Hornets senior Kale Misegades nailed a three in the opening minutes to eclipse 2,000 career points, and stayed hot the rest of the way with a game-high 27. Misegades shot 11 of 18 from the floor, adding nine rebounds and six assists.

Dawson Bushman added 18 points, including five 3s, and Zack Wiederich scored 13.

Three-point shooting was the difference, as Henning made 14 of 27 shots from distance compared to 1 of 14 for the Huskies.

Wahpeton was led by the backcourt tandem of sophomore Jack Gilbertson and senior Brayden Steffens. Gilbertson scored 14 of his 17 points in the first half and Steffens supplied a team-high 18. The duo combined to shoot an efficient 14 of 25 from the field.

Alex Comings, who was limited to 14 minutes due to foul trouble, led Wahpeton with eight rebounds — three of them coming on the offensive glass.

The Huskies (2-1) face the host team Fergus Falls on day two of the tournament at 7:30 p.m. Tuesday on KBMW.
