Wahpeton fell to Devils Lake in a pair of tough American Legion Baseball losses Tuesday by scores of 2-0 and 3-1. The road setback dropped Post 20 to 9-11 on the season, while Devils Lake improved its record to 20-7.
Carter Hockert took the tough-luck loss in game one despite allowing just three hits across six innings. He did not issue a walk while striking out six batters and allowing a single earned run.
The righty received no run support as Wahpeton mustered one hit, a single off the bat of designated hitter Eli Kappes.
Ben Larson earned the win for Devils Lake, needing only 87 pitches in a complete-game effort that included two walks and seven strikeouts.
Will Heilman and Mason Palmer had an RBI each for the victors.
Wahpeton went silent again at the plate in game two, tallying one hit apiece from Kappes and Aiden Hajek.
Cayson Pinsonneault drove in Brayden Steffens for Post 20’s only run.
Rylan Flack returned to form on the bump despite taking the loss. The Wahpeton righty completed six innings of three-run baseball (one earned run), scattering six hits and three walks while striking out four.
Palmer notched a complete-game win equipped with nine strikeouts.
