Wahppers fall to Miners, Kappes stays hot at the plate

The Wahpeton Wahppers amateur baseball team closed out the First City Showdown in Bemidji with a 7-2 loss to the Hibbing Miners in tournament play over the weekend.

The Wahppers went 1-2 at the showdown and now hold a 3-4 season record.

Caden Kappes and Tori Uhlich both went 2-for-4 atop the batting order. Ryan Loewe added two hits from the cleanup spot.

Unofficially, Kappes leads the Wahppers with a .579 batting average across 24 plate appearances. Loewe is batting .429 with a team-high four RBIs.

Jake Uhlich took the loss on the mound after surrendering three runs in the first inning. Take DeKok allowed four runs across 2 ⅔ innings and Tori Uhlich closed the contest with 2 ⅓ shutout frames.

Hibbing tallied 10 hits to Wahpeton’s nine. The Wahppers only committed one error on defense compared to four Miner mishaps.
