Storm sweeps Staples-Motley, Ernst and Moses clobber homers

The Breckenridge-Wahpeton Storm softball team swept Staples-Motley on Thursday by scores of 7-2 and 8-0. The home victories were highlighted by home runs from Jaelie Ernst and Kaylie Moses.

Ernst batted 2-for-3 in the opener with a homer, four RBIs and two runs scored. Ava Jaehning inched her average closer to .300 with a 2-for-3 performance and Sydni Roberts added two hits from her leadoff spot.

Marley Mumm worked around seven hits in a complete-game win. The sophomore pitcher struck out four Cardinals and issued two walks.

Game two was highlighted by a Kaylie Moses two-run bomb in her first varsity plate appearance. Adi Dodge supplied two doubles in a 3-for-4 performance as the Storm racked up 12 hits.

Mumm was lights out inside the circle, firing another complete game and holding the Cardinals to three hits. Mumm recorded five strikeouts and walked only one batter.

Breckenridge-Wahpeton is now 6-5 on the season.
