Wahpeton’s Treyton Mauch wins prestigious Powerade Athlete of the Year

Wahpeton senior running back Treyton Mauch has been named Powerade Class 2A Athlete of the Year for North Dakota high school football. The award was presented at the 2024 Dakota Bowl. Mauch ran for over 1,700 yards and scored 25 total touchdowns this past season, while racking up 100-plus tackles at his linebacker position and leading Wahpeton to its first playoff victory in a decade.
The Class 2A Dakota Bowl featured the No. 2 West Fargo Horace Hawks and the No. 1 Grand Forks Red River Roughriders. Horace handed Red River its only loss of the season, 14-8, to win its first state championship.
In Class 3A, West Fargo Sheyenne defeated Fargo Davies, 24-14. In Class 1A, Velva-Drake-Anamoose-Garrison handed Kindred its only loss of the season, 14-12. Dakota Bowl games are played at the Fargodome.
