Wildcats

No. 5-ranked North Dakota State College of Science overcame a sluggish first half on Saturday to claim a 43-21 road win at Vermillion. The Wildcats outscored the home squad 29-0 in the final two quarters, improving to 4-2 on the season.
Malique Jackson’s 37-yard interception return at the end of the first quarter set up a rushing touchdown from nine yards out by Tyvon Cade. Vermillion answered with a 1-yard touchdown plunge by Twan Tutwiler to tie the game at 7-7.
Later in the half, Jacob Mattick found Trevion Carothers on a 33-yard touchdown pass. Alexander Henry’s point after attempt was partially blocked but cleared the crossbar for a 14-7 lead.
Vermillion responded with a pair of touchdowns, highlighted by a 60-yard blocked field goal return by Dawon Atchison at the halftime horn. Vermillion took a 21-14 lead into the locker room.
Touchdown passes from Mattick to Carothers and Ishmael Immanuel-Holloway, a scoring run by Michael Douglas Jr., and a TD scamper by Mattick helped NDSCS blow past Vermillion after the break.
Jeremiah Wainwright added an interception for the Wildcats, while Mark Cabrera was responsible for the team’s lone sack on the day.
The Wildcats will host Central Lakes Brainerd at 1:30 p.m. Saturday for homecoming. Brad Anderson will have the call on B 92.7 FM and Robert Wanek Jr. will be on the field filming for the “JUCO PRODUCT” documentary presented by i3G Media and NDSCS College Relations & Marketing.
