The Wahpeton Huskies baseball team was swept in its home opener by the West Fargo Horace Hawks, 11-0 and 9-2. Hawks starter Cason Borchardt dialed up 14 strikeouts in game one.
Cooper Klosterman recorded Wahpeton’s lone hit. Lefty ace Jayden King started game one for the Huskies and struck out his share of batters, along with multiple walks, but saw his afternoon end early after an error extended the third inning. Complete statistics were not available.
Brayden Steffens made a serviceable start for the Huskies in game two, but was tagged with four earned runs after exiting the game with the bases loaded. The inherited runners came around to score and put the game out of reach.
Wahpeton sophomore Aiden Hajek was named Player of the Game in the nightcap after doubling off the fence and, later, throwing a runner out at second base from right field.
Wahpeton is now 0-3 heading into Tuesday’s home doubleheader vs. Fargo Shanley. Coverage begins at 4:45 p.m. on B 92.7 FM and streaming live on KBMW News Live YouTube.
