Michael Broadland, 66, of Breckenridge, Minnesota, passed away at Sanford Medical Center in Fargo, North Dakota, on Saturday, March 21, 2026. A memorial service will be held in Michael’s honor on Friday, April 3, 2026, at 11:00 am with a visitation held one hour prior, at Vertin Munson Funeral Home, Wahpeton, ND. Pastor René Hasbargen will officiate.
He was born on October 20, 1959, in Salina, Kansas, to Helen (Lund) and Floyd Dean Broadland. He was the third of five children. He grew up and attended school in Campbell, MN.
Michael graduated from Campbell Tintah High School in 1979. Following high school, he went on to study in Moorhead and later in Wahpeton at NDSCS. Throughout his education, he focused on several areas, including fashion merchandising, cable installation technology, and architectural drafting and surveying. On July 7, 1984, Michael married Carla (Lehman) at St. Gall’s Catholic Church in Tintah, MN. In their union, they had two children.
Mike worked many years in the cable industry and took pride in his work as a systems technician for various cable companies, both locally and in Houston, TX, and the Semi Valley, California area. Although his health issues made it difficult for him to continue in that line of work as long as he had hoped, you rarely heard him complain or make excuses. He worked hard and was dedicated regardless of the job he was undertaking. Mike returned to the Wahpeton area, where he met Connie in 1996, and they shared nearly 30 years together.
Michael will be remembered for his easygoing nature, his sense of humor, and his passion for the game of golf. Whether he was out on the course with his golf buddies or watching a tournament on TV, golf brought him great joy and connection. He possessed the qualities needed to be skilled in the sport: he was patient with those he loved, had a jovial and lighthearted disposition, rarely took things too seriously, and was especially disciplined in his short game. He accepted a few lost balls and would endure some of the ugly weather of the Midwest if it meant a day on the course. He cherished time with his family playing the game, the friendships he built, and the many hours spent on a course doing what he loved most.
Michael is survived by his significant other, Connie Metcalf of Breckenridge, MN; his former wife, Carla Broadland-Nordick of Wahpeton, ND; one daughter, Ariane (Brent Ludwig) Getz of Wahpeton, ND, her children: Mykenzie (Connor Tschakert), Isaac (Kaia) Getz, Josiah and Jaxon Breuer; one son, Dean (Amanda) Broadland of New Brighton, MN, their children: Lawrence and Mies; one great grandchild, Ledger Tschakert; three stepchildren: Joe (Jessica) Metcalf of Barney, ND, their children: Levi, Brenna, and Brady; Seth Metcalf of Bemidji, MN, his children: Madison, Tate, Talen, and Vaida; Justan (Ashley) Metcalf of Bismarck, MN, their children: Shawn, Nate, Daymion, and Brexlynn; one sister, Pam (Gary) Schuler of Moorhead, MN; two brothers: Kelly Lankow of Fargo, ND and Korey (Gail) Lankow of Green Valley, AZ; one niece, Jenny (Dain) Miller of Fargo, ND; and four nephews: Todd Schuler of Glyndon, MN; and Jace, Zach, and Josh Lankow of Green Valley, AZ.
