Eldeen E. Rostad, 98

 Eldeen E. Rostad, 98, of Wahpeton, ND, formerly of Hankinson passed away Sunday, March 22, 2026, at Siena Court in Wahpeton surrounded by family.

    Visitation will be Friday, March 27, from 10:00 to 11:00 a.m. followed by the 

Funeral Service at 11:00 a.m. at Emmanuel United Church of Christ in Hankinson.  The officiant will be Ken Adams and music will be provided by Bev Paulson and great-grandson Sam Rinke.

    Burial will be in the United Cemetery.  Pallbearers will be Chris Kluge, Danny Wilm, Hunter Medenwald, Austin Moore, Remington Stavig, Gage Stavig, Evan Dietzel, Holden Rinke and Sam Rinke. 

    Eldeen Elaine Meyer was born March 11, 1928, in a small farmhouse in Elma Township, one mile from the South Dakota line in Richland County, ND.  She was the fifth child born to William and Bertha (Buttenhof) Meyer.  Eldeen was baptized and confirmed at the United Church of Christ in Hankinson.  She was a lifetime member of the United Church of Christ.  She was the Ladies Circle Chairman for numerous years.  

    She started her education at the country school in Elma Township.  She later attended high school in Hankinson only to leave school to help her mother.  In her later years, she finished her education with a GED from Wahpeton Science.

    On September 20, 1944, Eldeen married Harry Kluge. They made their home near New Effington where four of their children – Myron, David, Brenda and Rodney – were born.  After moving to the Kluge homestead in Duerr Township, ND, their fifth child Kevin Kluge was born.  Besides being a homemaker for a number of years, Eldeen worked various jobs which included the Dairy Lane, Jerry’s Bar, and Lake Elsie Supper Club.

    Eldeen was an excellent seamstress.  She sewed clothes for her children, prom dresses, and bridesmaid and flower girl dresses for her daughter’s wedding.  She loved to redo old dolls that were in the attic for years and dress them up and make them like new again.  She was skilled at upholstering chairs and davenports.  She loved to grow and be surrounded by flowers and her plants.

    On March 17, 1988, Eldeen married Al Rostad.  They made their home in Fargo, ND, and managed the Twin Towers Apartments and she worked for Swanson’s Health Foods.  

    After Al passed away in October 2003, Eldeen moved back to Wahpeton and for the last 14 years made her home at Siena Court Assisted Living where she enjoyed picture puzzles and Bingo.

    Survivors include her children, Myron Kluge, David (Mary) Kluge, Brenda (David) Krause, Rodney (Doreen) Kluge, and Kevin (Patty) Kluge; 10 grandchildren; 21 great-grandchildren; and 5 great-great-grandchildren.

    Eldeen was preceded in death by her husbands, Harry Kluge and Al Rostad; parents, William and Bertha Meyer; daughter-in-law, Margie Kluge; great-grandson, Kevin Knudson; brothers, Vernon and Olbay Meyer; and sisters, Lorraine Baker and Ethel Navratil.

    The Frank Family Funeral Home in Hankinson is in charge of the arrangements.
