The third-seeded Wahpeton Lady Huskies fell to the second-seeded Kindred Vikings in Tuesday’s Region 1A girls basketball semifinal, 69-53.
Liza Trenbeath led Kindred with a tournament-high 38 points and Siera Nipstad added 25. Wahpeton was paced by sophomore Claire Woods, who scored 20 of her team-high 26 in the second half. Seventh grader Ashlynne Max added 14 for the Lady Huskies.
The loss sends Wahpeton into Thursday’s elimination round against top-seeded Valley City at North Dakota State University. Valley City was upset by fourth-seeded Central Cass in the semifinals, 65-59, in the Hi-Liners first region loss of the season.
The winner of Wahpeton vs. Valley City will play in Saturday’s state-qualifier game at Mayville State University, while Kindred and Central Cass will play for the region title Saturday at NDSU.
