The Breckenridge Cowgirls improved their season record to 17-7 following an 85-45 home win against Park Rapids Area on Friday. The scoring output was a season high for Breckenridge, who improved to 10-4 in Heart O’ Lakes Conference contests.
The victory was extra special on Senior Night, as the veteran corps of Johnica Bernotas (19 points), Emily Gowin (18 points) and Parker Yaggie (16 points) combined for 53 points. Gowin and Bernotas combined for eight 3-pointers, while Yaggie racked up a game-high 12 rebounds and six assists.
Junior guard Ana Spear scored 10 points and swiped a game-high six steals. Freshman guard Ava Jaehning supplied eight points and five rebounds. Junior guard/forward Piper Jaehning added six points and three steals.
Sienna Fobb and Mariah Koltes continued to provide a dominant one-two punch in the paint. The center tandem combined for six points, 11 rebounds, four assists and two blocks. Fobb served as an efficient scorer on 3-of-5 shooting, while Koltes reprised her rim protector role at the low block.
Breckenridge (17-7, 6-1) prepares for Tuesday’s section home bout vs. Underwood (18-5, 17-3) in a battle for the No. 2 seed. The Cowgirls are ranked No. 7 statewide in the Minnesota Scores Quality Results Formula and the Rockets are No. 21.
