The Breckenridge-Wahpeton Blades pushed the No. 1 team in the West Central standings to the brink Monday, falling just short in a 5-4 road loss at Prairie Centre.
The Blades (9-9-1) saw their six-game winning streak come to a halt, but proved their recent success is no fluke with a solid showing against the North Stars (15-6).
Both teams scored once in the opening period and twice in the second stanza. Prairie Centre won the third period 2-1 to escape with the home win.
Michael Petersen, Matt Petersen, Kai McDonald and Isaiah Bruechert each scored a goal in a balanced Blades attack. Jaxson Lopez tallied two assists while Easton Neppl and Cayson Pinsonneault added one assist apiece.
James Rieland and Hagen Brunkhorst each netted two goals for the North Stars and Jackson Moritz also lit the lamp.
Cale Gilbertson stopped 25 of 30 shots on goal for Breckenridge-Wahpeton. Isaiah Hutchinson stopped 26 of 30 for Prairie Centre.
The Blades travel to Crookston on Tuesday before hosting Wadena-Deer Creek on Thursday. The latter game will air at 7 p.m. on AM 1450 KBMW with Brady DeVries carrying the call.
