Local teams receiving votes in the latest North Dakota Associated Press Sportswriters and Sportscasters Association boys basketball polls included both Wahpeton and Hankinson. The poll was released Tuesday, voted on by NDAPSSA media members.
The Wahpeton Huskies, despite winning their season opener on the road against Thompson, 49-42, dropped from No. 5 in the Division “A” preseason poll to the first team out. Central Cass (2-0) leapfrogged the Huskies in the fifth spot.
Following three straight wins, Devils Lake jumped from No. 3 into the top spot. Despite winning its only game thus far, Beulah moved down to No. 2, Kindred (1-0) dropped from the preseason No. 1 without losing a game, and Four Winds-Minnewaukan (1-0) held at No. 4.
The Huskies will host Four Winds-Minnewaukan at 5 p.m. Saturday for a chance to slide themselves back into the top five with a victory. Robert Wanek has the call on AM 1450 and KBMW News Live YouTube.
The Hankinson Pirates (2-0) came in at No. 4 in the Division “B” poll, tying for the spot with Ray (2-0). Our Redeemer’s (1-0) retained its top spot with 14 of 18 first-place votes, North Border (2-0) was second and received the other four. Central McLean (2-0) rounded out the top five.
