Emily Gowin hit some big threes to help Breckenridge rally in the second half of Friday’s conference road loss to the Frazee Hornets.
The Breckenridge Cowgirls couldn’t maintain an early 19-13 lead against Frazee on Friday, dropping another Heart O’ Lakes Conference contest by a score of 70-64.
Frazee held a 10-point lead on its home court with 2:38 remaining in the contest, before a barrage of threes from Ana Spear, Parker Yaggie and Emily Gowin cut the lead to two points in the final minute.
Moments later, Yaggie came up with a steal and drove to the basket, but Frazee stripped the ball and it glanced off Yaggie’s leg out of bounds to dash the comeback bid.
It’s the third conference loss for the Cowgirls in the early slate. Breckenridge led by at least six points in all three losses.
The undefeated Hornets (5-0) rode the hot hand of University of North Dakota commit Jayden Sonnenberg and her 28-point, 12-rebound double-double. Brynn Larson posted 21 points and 17 rebounds. Concordia Moorhead commit Katie Courneya added 21.

Jayden Sonnenberg (30) celebrates with her teammates after making a layup at the halftime buzzer.
Frazee made Breckenridge pay at free-throw line, knocking down 20 of 25 attempts. In contrast, the Cowgirls shot 5 of 11 at the line.
The Cowgirls (2-4) were led by Emily Gowin’s 18 points. The senior guard knocked down four of five shots from beyond the arc and scored 10 of her team’s first 19 points.
Parker Yaggie recorded her third double-double of the season with 13 points and 13 boards, while dishing out a game-high five assists.
Senior sharpshooter Johnica Bernotas scored nine of her 12 from downtown.
The Cowgirls are back in action Tuesday with another HOL contest against the visiting Hawley Nuggets. They will host game one of a program doubleheader Thursday against the Barnesville Trojans.
