For the first time this season, there are two polls in each of classes A & B basketball, with the latest girls polls and preseason boys polls released Wednesday by the North Dakota Associated Press Sportscasters & Sportswriters Association.
In Class A, Valley City remains number one in the girls’ poll. The Hi-Liners defeated Devils Lake last week and will begin play in the Barnes County Tournament on Thursday. Carrington is second again. The Cardinals will have a showdown with new number five team Turtle Mountain in Belcourt on Friday.
Kindred is in front in the Class A boys preseason poll. Last year’s champion, Devils Lake, is third. The Firebirds gave the Vikings their only loss in last season’s state championship game. Wahpeton, coming off an 18-win season last year, is ranked fifth.
Unbeaten Benson County still looks down at the rest in the Class B girls rankings. The Wildcats are 5-0 before playing at Carrington next Monday. LaMoure-Litchville/Marion moved up two spots to number two.
Our Redeemer’s is the preseason pick at number one among Class B boys. North Border is second. Both teams had 25 wins last season, with Our Redeemer’s finishing fourth in the state tournament and North Border seventh. New Rockford-Sheyenne and Oakes received votes, but not enough to make the top five.
