The Breckenridge-Wahpeton Bolts swim team attended a fast-paced, two-day meet at Hulbert in West Fargo over the weekend. Swimmers competed in 3-4 events per day, of which, many were very close together. Even with little rest, the Bolts maintained top times and improved on many.
Charlie Mertes, 14, was the most improved Bolt at this meet, dropping 5-12 seconds in each event compared to last year’s time. He placed runner-up in both 50 and 100 butterfly, improving the latter by over 12 seconds. Mertes also grabbed second in 100 freestyle, third in 100 breaststroke and 50 butterfly, and fifth in 50 breaststroke.
Linnea Burgr, 15, competed in a solid 1000 free for the first time, placing 2nd with a state-qualifying time (12:57.84). She also improved her 200 back to finish second. Burger was also top-five in the 200 medley, and both butterfly events.
Isla Burgr won the 200 breast (2:45.57) and 50 breast (34.36) while taking second in the 100 breast.
Elli Hendrickson, 16, won the 100 back (1:10.36) and 500 free(6:34.40). She also finished second and third in the 50 fly and free, respectively. She also placed 3rd in the 100 breast.
Josi Biffert, 8, won the 25 fly (27.79) and finished runner-up in the 50 back and 25 breast. She added bronze finishes in the 25 back and 50 breast.
Gus Dohman, 16, competed well in the 200 medley for the first time, while also sweeping the 50 back, 50 breast and 100 free.
Maddy Beyer, 18, held strong times to place runner-up in the 200 medley, adding a trio of third-place swims in the 50 breast, 100 free and 50 back.
Inga Dohman, 10, picked up a sixth-place showing in the 50 fly.
Evie Beyer, 9, improved her 50 fly time by over nine seconds to place 15th.
Annie Isom, 10, attempted the 200 medley for the first time and took sixth.
Kaylee Summerville, 9, attended her first meet and took 16th in the 100 medley.
Thea Gebhardt, 11, aged up and was unable to place, but showed she is ready to go with nice time drops from last year.
The Bolts will travel to Moorhead High on Dec. 13.
