Cowboys advance to Section 6A Championship

Breckenridge knew they’d get a tougher test their second time facing Otter Tail Central after beating them 42-0 in the regular season. The Bulldogs trailed by one score at halftime as they were hoping to upset the top seed in Section 6A at Cowboy Field but Breckenridge came to life in the second half to win 35-0. The victory sends them to the Fargodome for the Section Championship for the first time since 2022.

David Erlandson got the lone TD of the first half on a five-yard tote. The senior went for 124 on 18 carries, scoring twice.

With OTC marching down the field and hoping to tie the game before halftime, Riley Kappes snagged a batted pass out of the air for a game-changing interception.

The junior got it done on offense as well with 100 yards on the ground with two TDs and 101 passing yards with a 58-yard TD toss to senior tight end Levi Christensen. A bulk of Kappes’ yardage came on a 64-yard keeper that he scored on while two of his completions were to Christensen for 73 yards. Cooper Roberts’ lone catch went for 28 yards.

The 10-0 Cowboys have a matchup with the 9-1 second-seeded Parkers Prairie Panthers. The lone loss of the season came in week two against Breck, 22-12. The Cowboys look to avenge last year’s playoff loss with kickoff set for 12:30 p.m. Friday at the Fargodome.
