The Breckenridge-Wahpeton Storm cross country teams capped off their conference season Tuesday with an outstanding performance at the Heart O’ Lakes Championships. Racing on their home course in cool, calm and rainy conditions, the Storm showed grit, teamwork and speed — highlighted by three all-conference honorees and another school record.

Lucie Comstock was on a mission and led the way for the Storm girls, finishing third overall in 18:51.9, breaking the 19-minute barrier for the first time and resetting the school record in the 5K. She was joined on the All-Conference list by teammate Kiera Wiertzema, who placed 11th in 19:47.5, and Troy Berndt, who claimed 14th in the boys race with a 17:30.6 finish.

Comstock said, “I felt really good — running in the cool temps and light rain was refreshing.” Fellow teammate Jasmyn Benedict added, “I’m very proud of my teammates for working together, picking each other up, and striving to run their best the past couple of meets.”

The girls squad continued their strong season, finishing 3rd out of 10 teams behind perennial powerhouse Perham and up-and-coming Barnesville. Rounding out the Storm scoring were Jasmyn Benedict (20:37.1), Gracie Falck (20:57.6), and Ashlynne Max (21:20.2) — all running very solid times.
