It was a good showing for our Husky girls golf team at the state tournament. After finishing in fifth place during the regular season and fourth place at the regional, we are very pleased with our seventh place finish at state. With only two returning varsity golfers, the postseason had it’s challenges, but we managed to get some valuable experience for our young team that will pay off in the future.
Senior Claire Langenwalter played the best golf of her career on Monday, recording a 4-over-par 76. Claire had a 1-over-par 37 on the front nine and a 3-over-par 39 on the back with three birdies and nine pars on the day. Tuesday’s round didn’t go quite as well, but Claire still managed to put up a good score with her 84. She had several opportunities for
birdie and just couldn’t get one to fall. After finishing the regular season 15th in the conference and sixth in the region tournament — 12th at state was great for Claire.
When you have a senior that plays their best golf when it matters most, it’s a great way to cap off their career and Claire did that over the last couple weeks of her season.
Ella Langenwalter also put together two good rounds in the 80s at the state tournament. Ella had a rough start on day one and was 9-over-par through the first four holes. Then, she managed to play the final 15 holes in 4-over to shoot a very good 85. Ella has the game to be a low to mid 80s player all the time and we saw some of that at the state tournament this week.
Brooke Rosenberg posted a solid 88 on day one with four pars and did a great job of avoiding the big numbers that have hurt her score. Brooke has improved very much over the course of the season and we saw the results at the state tournament. With a season average of 100, Brooke broke 100 in every tournament in the final month of the season, an
excellent accomplishment for her first state tournament.
Claire Woods had two rounds under 100, and after a disastrous start on day one, Claire played very well across the final 27 holes. Claire also averaged 100 over the course of the season and for her to get two rounds under 100 at state is a nice accomplishment.
Tenley Hills had four pars on Monday enroute to her 95. She’s another girl that gained some valuable experience for the future by playing in this state tournament.
Julia Dohman had a nice birdie on No. 16 Monday and she had three pars Tuesday. She’s another girl that played in her first state tournament and gained a lot of valuable experience for the future.
