Helen was born on May 26, 1942, to Wanita and Walter Burris in Fergus Falls, MN. She also spent her years growing up and attending school in Fergus Falls.

On March 18, 1960, she married Donavan Olthoff. They loved on the Olthoff Family Farm by Doran, MN, where Helen was a wonderful farm wife.
