The last time the Breckenridge Cowboys were on their home field was a 22-12 loss to Parkers Prairie to end the 2024 season. A nearly identical score saw the home team get revenge in 2025 as Breck picked up a 21-12 victory on Friday.
Riley Kappes delivered his second three-score day of the year, finding the end zone for all of Breck’s TDs. His first tied the game with under a minute left in the first half and David Erlandson, in Charlie Eggiman’s absence, booted the PAT to give his squad the lead.
Kappes would punch it in for a pair of short-yardage scores to give the Cowboys a 21-6 cushion heading into the fourth. The Panthers, who scored earlier on a QB keeper by Nolan Boesl, threatened in the fourth quarter with a seven-yard TD by Justin Olson. The Panthers had it within nine, but the Cowboys kept it a two-score game when Henry Slettedahl blew up the two-point rush.
David Erlandson also came up with a big two-point conversion tackle earlier in the game. The senior tailback was the team’s leading rusher with 80 yards on 15 carries against a physical Panthers defense. He added a 3/3 day on PAT kicks as well.
Kappes had 33 yards on 19 carries with a bulk of his yardage being lost to sacks. The junior had his best passing performance as a Cowboy going 10-13 for 125 yards. Cooper Roberts was the favorite target as he hauled in four catches for 82 yards, half of it coming on a long ball in the second half to set up a score. The 6-foot-5 pass catcher used the blocking from his fellow senior receiver Charlie Kratcha to pack on the yards after catch.
Senior tight end Levi Christensen had 27 yards on three catches including a one-handed gem.
The lone turnover of the game was a kickoff that was recovered by Jaxson Riggs, the kicker himself. The senior gave it light poke and was the first one to get his hands on it once it went 10 yards and then came out of the scrum with the ball.
Defensive tackle Jaxon Harig clogged up the middle to make life tough on the Panther wing-T offense the first couple drives but the junior suffered a leg injury that forced him to leave the game in the first half.
Breckenridge stays home to take on Frazee who enters the game 2-0 and second in Section 8AA.
