Wahpeton drops two games at Essentia Health Baseball Tournament

Wahpeton Post 20 suffered a pair of losses Friday to open the Essentia Health Legion Baseball Tournament in Kindred.

Post 20 started the tourney at 10 a.m. with a 9-1 loss to Seward, Nebraska, before dropping the noon game in a 9-3 loss to the Watertown Arrows.

Seward started its big lefty Deklan Lindau, who pitched four hitless and scoreless innings. Karson Dyer closed the contest with a pair of perfect frames.

Wahpeton ace Aiden Hajek took his first loss of the season. The righty completed 4 1/3 innings while allowing four earned runs on eight hits, a walk and two balks.

The Post 20 defense did Hajek no favors by committing four errors. The bright spot was Essentia Health Player of the Game Aiden Hendrickson, who caught two runners stealing from his catcher position.

Seward racked up 11 hits in the contest.

Wahpeton shuffled its batting order around in game two. Trey King moved into the leadoff role and opened the game with double, scoring twice in the loss. Cayson Pinsonneault added a single in the No. 2 spot, Dylan Vierstraete singled as a pinch hitter and Rylan Flack added an RBI.

King took the loss on the hill. The righty tossed 4 2/3 innings, allowing two earned runs on three hits and four walks while fanning five.

The Wahpeton bullpen let up six runs.

Caden Corey earned the win for Watertown, firing five innings of three-run baseball. Lincoln Schutt closed the contest with two scoreless innings.

Wahpeton will take a 9-13 record into Saturday’s tournament play. Games will air on B 92.7 FM and KBMW News Live YouTube at 4:30 and 7 p.m.
