Breckenridge held to 3 hits in Wednesday home loss

Breckenridge Post 53 struggled to manufacture runs in a 5-1 home loss against Pelican Rapids Post 17 on Wednesday night. 

Breckenridge mustered only three hits — two singles by Logan Church and another from Gavin Hoffert. The latter scored Post 53’s lone run of the ballgame.

Church and Hoffert each collected a stolen base.

Jaxson Riggs took the loss on the mound. He tossed four solid innings, scattering six hits and a walk while striking out nine. The righty allowed two earned runs.

Church entered in relief and completed three frames. He allowed five hits and a walk while striking out three. The lefty surrendered two earned runs.

Luke Sjolie and Timmy Guler combined on five hits in the middle of Pelican Rapids’ order. Ethan Sjostrom had two RBIs, while Guler and Estaban Garza both drove in a run.

Sjolie earned the win after pitching four frames of one-hit baseball. He worked around five walks and fanned four batters. Garza was excellent in long relief, pitching three shutout innings and holding Post 53 to one hit.

Breckenridge fell to 6-9 with the loss and Pelican Rapids improved to 5-6.
