Jacob Nicholson was called to pinch-hit in the sixth inning of a scoreless ballgame Monday … but it wasn’t just any game.

Breckenridge, mired in a four-game losing streak, was hosting a 22-3 Dilworth-Glyndon-Felton team.

The light-hitting lefty made his moment count, smacking a one-out double to right field and coming around to score the game-winning run in a 1-0 triumph.

Nicholson advanced to third on a Gavin Hoffert single and crossed home plate on a bunt single laid down by Jaxson Lopez.

Charlie Kratcha took the mound in the seventh and tied the bow on a complete-game three-hitter with a backward “K” for the final out. Kratcha retired the batter on three straight looking strikes to seal Breckenridge’s biggest win of the season.

Kratcha recorded seven strikeouts in the shutout bid, walking one batter while firing 61 of 91 pitches in the zone.

The victory was extra-sweet, considering Breckenridge fell 10-9 at DGF earlier this summer on a walk-off single.

Landon Johnson was electric on the bump for DGF, scattering six hits and a pair of walks through six innings. He struck out 10 while tossing 65 of 94 pitches in the zone.

Breckenridge improves to 6-8 following the win, and returns to its home diamond Wednesday in a 6:30 p.m. showdown vs. Pelican Rapids on B 92.7 FM and KBMW News Live YouTube.
