Wahppers catch fire in 17-4 victory over Hawley

The Wahpeton Wahppers amateur baseball team caught fire Friday in a 17-4 home win against the Hawley Hawks at John Randall Field.

Leading 5-4 midway through the game, Wahpeton erupted for six runs in both the fifth and sixth innings.

The Wahppers tallied 14 hits during the offensive onslaught.

Caden Kappes went 3-for-4 with a team-high four runs batted in and four additional runs scored. Jackson Fliflet was perfect at the plate in a 4-for-4 performance, scoring three times and driving in two.

Tori Uhlich scored twice in the leadoff spot. Nick Zach highlighted the bottom of the order by going 1-for-1 with a pair of walks and three runs.

Ryan Loewe continues to generate runs, batting 2-for-5 with a trio of RBIs.

Loewe also earned the win on the hill after completing five innings. The righty worked around six hits and four walks while striking out three, limiting the damage to three earned runs.

Jack Davies pitched the final two frames in scoreless fashion, allowing one hit and retiring three batters on strikes.

Wahpeton has now won back-to-back games and holds a 5-5 overall record.
