The Wahpeton Wahppers amateur baseball team suffered a 6-2 loss to the Detroit Lakes Ligers on Sunday despite besting them 12-9 in the hit column.
Caden Kappes led the Wahppers with four hits.
The Ligers got on the board in the first when Grady Kirchner hit a solo home run to left field.
They scored two runs in the third on a home run to left by Jacob Thomas and added another in the fifth when Thomas left the park for a second time with a solo shot over the wall in left.
Bradley Swiers earned the win for Ligers. The hurler surrendered 12 hits and two runs over nine innings, striking out seven and walking three.
Skyler Bladow took the loss for the Wahppers. The righty went six innings, allowing four earned runs on five hits, striking out five and walking six.
Jake Uhlich went 1-for-5 with the Wahppers’ lone run batted in. Jackson Fliflet, Sterling Warne and Grant Mundahl each had multiple hits and Fliflet stole two bases.
The Wahppers have a 2-1 record to begin their inaugural season.
