Cowboys advance in section playoffs behind Vogelbacher’s 3-hitter

The Breckenridge Cowboys made the most of their six hits in Tuesday’s home playoff opener vs. Browerville-Eagle Valley, churning out six runs to defeat the Tigers and advance in the Section 6A Baseball Tournament.

The 6-3 victory sends Breckenridge to Browerville where the tournament will take place, spoiling the Tigers’ opportunity to play on their home diamond.

With its season on the line, Breckenridge called upon staff ace Trey Vogelbacher. The righty answered with a 112-pitch three-hitter, going the distance on the mound and striking out eight batters. The senior issued three walks and tossed 74 strikes.

Cooper Roberts stayed hot at the plate, going 2-for-4 with an RBI and one run scored. Roberts was the only Cowboy with multiple hits.

Gavin Hoffert, Paul Armitage, Connor Ernst and Vogelbacher each singled in a game that didn’t yield any extra-base knocks.

Breckenridge traded power for speed, stealing six bases on Tigers starter Ryan Riedel, who went six innings and struck out nine. Riedel matched Vogelbacher’s pitch count at 112 (73 strikes) and walked just two batters.

Breckenridge improves to 11-8 and Browerville-Eagle Valley ends its season with a 4-11 record. Stay tuned to kbmwnews.com for scheduling and broadcast updates regarding the Cowboys’ upcoming Section 6A Tournament matchup.
