Multiple members of the Wahpeton track and field team had performances to remember at the NDHSAA State Meet, outperforming expectations and rising to new heights.
Treyton Mauch shined in the 300-meter hurdles. The senior posted a fourth-place time of 39.62 seconds, missing the Wahpeton school record by six-tenths of a second and reaching his first state podium.
Mauch followed up his top-five showing in the 300-meter by finishing seventh in the 110-meter hurdles in a time of 15.35 seconds.
Freshman thrower Claire Woods entered the meet ranked 17th statewide in the discus. Woods shattered her previous marks with a runner-up throw of 129’04” to finish five feet ahead of the third place distance.
Woods also excelled in the shot put, finishing fifth with a throw of 39’0.5”.
The girls 4×800 relay of Lucie Comstock, Olivia Hansen, Addie Parker and Gracie Falck shaved an outstanding 17 seconds off their mark to finish 14th with a time of 10:21.85.
