The Breckenridge baseball team ended its regular season on a high note Thursday with an 11-1 home win over Hillcrest Lutheran Academy. The Cowboys tallied a dozen hits and did not commit an error.
Senior ace Trey Vogelbacher had an excellent outing, throwing three innings of two-hit baseball. He allowed one run while walking one and striking out four.
Vogelbacher closes the regular season with a 4-1 record and a 3.08 earned run average. The righty held opponents to a .208 batting average while striking out 27 hitters across 25 innings. He’s also been dynamite at the dish with a team-best .404 batting average.
Riley Kappes and Logan Church fired two scoreless innings of relief.
Offensively, the Cowboys were led by Cooper Roberts’ 3-for-4 day. The 6-foot-5 junior scored twice and added an RBI. Roberts heads into the postseason batting .381 with a team-high 20 RBIs and five doubles.
Gavin Hoffert set the table against Hillcrest in a 2-for-4 performance with two runs.
Church anchored the bottom half of the lineup, slashing 2-for-3 with three RBIs and three stolen bases. The lefty leads Breckenridge with 13 steals in as many tries.
Jacob Nicholson added two steals Thursday, as the Cowboys swiped 10 bags overall.
Breckenridge heads into the Section 6A Baseball Tournament with a 10-8 record.
