Seventh-seeded North Dakota State College of Science bounced back in Saturday’s 1-1 round at the Region XIII Baseball Tournament with a resounding 13-5 win over sixth-seeded Ridgewater. The Wildcats stacked up 14 hits and seven walks at the plate.
Tori Uhlich sparked the lineup in a 2-for-3 performance, reaching base five times. Uhlich scored three runs, drove in a pair and swiped three bases to give him 42 steals.
Masen Allmaras, Skyler Fields and Stanley Belaskie supplied three RBIs each. The trio posted multi-hit performances alongside Uhlich and Carter Maasjo.
Wrigley Gunderson and Trace King both singled and scored a run. King had the play of the tournament at shortstop, making a backhand play in shallow left field and gunning the runner down at first base.
Ben Clouse put forth an Ironman outing on the mound. The sophomore pitched 6 ⅔ innings and fired 127 pitches. Clouse allowed five earned runs on four hits and seven walks, but worked his way out of several jams with nine strikeouts to earn the win.
In the 5 p.m. district-qualifier game, NDSCS ran into the same St. Cloud Tech team that defeated them 13-12 on Friday. The Cyclones overwhelmed the Wildcats, ending their season with an 18-0 victory in five innings.
Uhlich, Allmaras and Maasjo had the only NDSCS hits. The Wildcats went 2-2 at the region tournament to finish the year with a 15-27 record.
