ST. CLOUD, Minn. — Seventh-seeded North Dakota State College of Science had second-seeded St. Cloud Tech on the ropes Friday night, leading the entire game until the bottom of the ninth. The Cyclones scored five runs in the final frame to walk off the Wildcats in round two of the Region XIII Baseball Tournament.
NDSCS carried a 5-3 lead into the sixth, a 9-8 lead into the seventh, and a 12-8 lead into the ninth.
Tori Uhlich set the table for NDSCS with four walks and three runs scored. The Wildcats drew 15 walks and tallied eight hits in the loss.
Skyler Fields stepped up with runners in scoring position, batting 2-for-3 with four RBIs.
Ryan Loewe and Ben Clouse added two RBIs each, and Stanley Belaskie scored twice from the No. 9 hole.
Garrett Solberg provided a quality start across 5 1/3 innings. The righty surrendered four earned runs on eight hits and walk while striking out two.
Trace King pitched 2 2/3 innings of relief, allowing four earned runs while fanning five batters.
Nick Zach took the loss after giving up three runs (one earned) in the ninth. The game ended when a ground ball snuck through the left side, via error, off the bat of Hayden Frank to score Ben Rothstein and Max Reis.
The Wildcats remain alive in the Region XIII Tournament at 1-1. They will play Saturday at 2 p.m. on B 92.7 FM and KBMW News Live YouTube. The winner of that game advances to play at 5 p.m.
