The Breckenridge Cowboys fell to the Perham Yellowjackets in Tuesday’s Heart O’ Lakes Conference baseball game, 10-2. The home loss dropped Breckenridge to 6-6 on the season and kept Perham’s perfect record intact at 10-0.
Gavin Griffin had a 2-for-5 day at the plate for Perham that included a solo home run and a triple. Griffin tallied two RBIs and scored three times.
The Perham pitching staff was dominant, scattering three hits and striking out 14 Cowboys. Alex Blume got the win after tossing four innings and fanning eight.
The Cowboys were led by Gabe Armitage, who doubled to score his brother Paul and later drove in another run with a fielder’s choice groundout.
Jaxson Riggs delivered a quality start for Breckenridge despite walking six batters and watching the defense commit four errors behind him. Riggs threw 105 pitches across 5 ⅔ innings, allowing seven hits and three earned runs while striking out two.
Logan Church entered in relief and secured all four of his outs via strikeout, sitting down the side in the seventh with a beautiful mix of locations and velocities.
Breckenridge travels to Long Prairie-Grey Eagle on Friday to play one of the top teams in Section 6A North.
