The Breckenridge Cowboys suffered a short defeat at the hands of Staples-Motley on Thursday. The Cardinals ended the game at 14-4 through five innings as the 10-run rule went into effect.
The Cardinals posted nine hits in the rainy affair. Breckenridge mustered just four hits. Both teams committed four errors.
Gabe Armitage drew the road start for Breckenridge, allowing five earned runs across 2 ⅔ innings pitched. Riley Kappes took the loss, allowing five earned runs across 1 ⅔ innings. The Breckenridge staff only registered one strikeout in the game.
Connor Ernst continued his hot stretch at the plate in a 2-for-3 performance which included a double, an RBI and a run scored. Armitage and Riley Kappes each singled for the other two Breckenridge hits.
Tyrrell Benjamin pitched a five-inning complete-game for the Cardinals. Benjamin surrendered one earned run while striking out six and walking five.
Cooper and Colby Tappe did the heavy lifting for Staples-Motley. The duo batted 3-for-6 with three doubles and four RBIs.
Tyrell joined the party with a 2-for-2 performance that included three runs. Silas Claussen feasted from the No. 9 spot in the order with a pair of hits, generating five runs for the home team.
Breckenridge falls to 5-5 while Staples-Motley improves to 6-6.
