North Dakota State College of Science baseball had a banner afternoon Wednesday, sweeping Bismarck State College for the first time in the program’s five-year history.
NDSCS won the opener, 8-3, before staging an eight-run rally to steal the back half by a score of 8-7.
Game one was highlighted by a 116-pitch complete game from Dyllon Geiser. The freshman righty worked around seven hits and five walks while striking out five. He surrendered three earned runs.
Multi-hit performances by Ryan Loewe, Griffin Albrecht and Dawson Crowe carried the ‘Cats lineup. Max Heen added three runs from the No. 3 hole.
NDSCS used a combined effort in the bump to win game two. Trace King started on the mound and fired five innings of four-run ball. Tate DeKok earned the victory in relief, allowing one run and striking out two in the sixth.
Former Wahpeton Post pitcher Nick Zach was called upon for the save, entering to the sound of “For Whom The Bell Tolls” by Metallica.
Zach fanned the first batter before allowing a single and a two-run homer off the bat of Cole Shirley. The lefty buckled down and sealed the save with a strikeout.
The Wildcats went hitless through five innings against Mystics starter Nolan Wahlfeldt. NDSCS tagged Wahlfeldt for six runs in the sixth to take the lead.
The Wildcats tied the game at 5-5 when Stanley Belaskie walked with the bases loaded.
Two batters later, Masen Allmaras drove a triple to the fence in left center to clear the bases — past the diving attempt of center fielder Tate Mart.
NDSCS improves to 10-20 while Bismarck State falls to 24-19.
