
The Wahpeton Huskies defeated the Valley City Hi-Liners by a score of 10-8 on Tuesday night in their home opener at John Randall Field.
Wahpeton used a six-run third inning to earn its first victory of the spring.
Rylan Flack showcased his strikeout stuff on the mound, grinding through four innings of four-run baseball. Only two of those runs were earned, as Flack racked up seven strikeouts and scattered four hits.
Aiden Hajek picked up a backward “K” to nail down the save. Hajek fanned four of the five batters he faced.
Six Huskies found the hit column, led by a 2-for-2 night from Aidan Hendrickson in the nine spot.
Carter Hockert went 1-for-3 with a double and two RBIs atop the order.
Eli Kappes and Brayden Steffens scored two runs apiece.
The Huskies tagged Hi-Liners starter James Schwehr for eight runs across three innings and staved off the Valley City comeback bid led by two doubles from Jack Samuelson and two RBIs from Corbyn Powell.
The Huskies (1-1) head to Grand Forks Central (3-2) for a Thursday doubleheader. The Hi-Liners (0-1) have 10 days off before they travel to Fargo Davies.
